5 Star Equine Sales is proud to partner with Markel Insurance to provide buyers with 24-hour “Fall of the Hammer” Mortality Coverage for horses purchased through our auctions. This complimentary coverage ensures immediate protection for your new horse from the moment bidding closes.

Coverage Details

• Coverage applies automatically for 24 hours after the close of the auction.

• Coverage is based on the final purchase price of each horse.

• Eligible horses must be between 6 months and 13 years of age.

• Horses must have a satisfactory health document submitted to sale management prior to the auction.

• Coverage includes all-risk mortality, meaning it reimburses the buyer for the death or humane destruction of the covered horse, including illness or disease.

• Pre-existing conditions are excluded from coverage.

• Recipient mares, embryos, and unborn foals are not eligible for this temporary coverage.

• Horses in transit are not covered until they reach their final destination.

Extending Coverage

Markel’s 24-hour “Fall of the Hammer” coverage will automatically expire 24 hours after the sale concludes. To continue protection beyond this period, buyers must contact our Markel representative directly:

Buyers who choose to extend their policy for one year will automatically receive €5,500 of emergency surgery coverage included in their mortality package.

Claims

If your horse experiences any accident, illness, injury, or death during the coverage period, you must contact Markel immediately.
